Microwave Misconceptions

1; Microwave ovens cause impotency! This is probably the oldest wives tales about microwave ovens. The fact is that microwave ovens produce heat and this what causes a reduction in sperm count, but it is not exclusively the microwave oven that can do this as many top chefs have low sperm counts due to working in the heat of a commercial kitchen for hours every day. The problem is also compounded by wearing underwear that is to tight as well.

2; Microwave ovens cook from the inside out. This is not the case as microwave ovens deposit heat the surface of the food in much the same way as conventional ovens. The difference is that microwaves penetrate the food deeper, which is influenced by the density of the food and depends on the water content of the food. The depth of penetration is also down to the length of the microwave, with shorter microwaves penetrating deeper.

3; Microwaves blast the nutrition out of food. Microwave ovens when used properly to cook food do not change the nutritional content of foods. In fact several studies have shown that the short cooking period can actually help retain more of the nutrients in your food.

4; Microwaves do not brown food. Food brown in microwaves depending on the composition of the food for example red meats will brown in your microwave oven, some products with high water content will come out limp. With the introduction of convection microwave ovens browning is possible for all foods. Convection microwave ovens though are an expensive luxury if they are only used for reheating and thawing foods, they are designed to meals from scratch.

5; Microwave ovens cause cancer; This theory has been thrown out a regular periods over many years. There have been extensive tests on rodents and all have proved inconclusive. There appears to be no long term effects caused by microwaves and they do not cause cancer or have carsenogenic properties.

Twenty-First Century Passport Security

A biometric passport is a combination of a paper and electronic identity document that used to authenticate the citizenship of travelers. The biometric passport is valid for 5 years for first time applicants, compared to 10 years passports without biometric features. The biometric passport is planned to have digital imaging and fingerprint biometrics placed on the radio frequency identification chip. A biometric passport uses the most advanced technology to verify a persons identity, looking the same as a regular passport, with the exception of the computer chip on the photo page.

Passports and ID cards are unlikely to actually use most the thirteen biometric indicators the government proposes to collect on all citizens. Passports are to be now based on biometric testing, and the passport's critical information is stored on a tiny RFID computer chip, much like how information is stored on smartcards.

Biometric passports first appeared in Belgium around the in 2004, putting the country a pioneer in the field. Biometric passports cannot be changed due to information only being able to be written to it once. Biometrics automates the process that verifies an individuals identity based on their physical characteristics. Biometrics included in a static chip provides a means by which the identity of visitors may be verified, and hinders entry by imposters and the use of fraudulent documents. Further advances in biometrics technology are growing all the time.

Biometric passport is a technology advancement that will spread across the world, and countries that have not adopted it will be alienated from rest of the world. The biometric passport is believed to be as a foolproof method to stop passport cheats in their tracks. A biometric passport is takes a scanned information of your photograph and stores it in a chip which is built into the passport itself. The DNA biometric passport is in development and has yet to be implemented fully, and governments that wish to implement it need to plan to ensure a smooth transition from the present system to the new system.

Fall 2007 Fashion Accessory Trends!

As the sizzling hot and stylish summer 2007 is unwinding, it's time to start thinking about some of the wonderful accessories to add to your collection for fall 2007. As is the case with each season, I'm again playing trend watcher and would like to share some of my favorites with you to help you adorn your unique essence and ensuring that your personal style is a reflection of your individuality. So, here are the trends I'm seeing:

Fashion Jewelry

Metallics, sculpted resins in smooth and bold designs, semi-precious gemstones, Murano-style glass, shell and crystal glass are all still setting the glamorous trends in fashion jewelry this fall. Bracelets will remain the "it" fashion accessory and non-traditional hearts, lock and keys, crowns and other girlie motifs guide brooch and pendant designs.

Let's look at how these materials are being used to create artistic beauty:

Boldly colored necklaces

Cuff bracelets

Chokers and shorter necklaces

Large pendants

Earrings and bracelets using concentric circles and bold loops

Link bracelets

Bangles

Brooches

Chunky rhinestone or Swarovski-crystal cocktail rings

Handbags

Naturally, we can't forget one of our favorite accessories. Handbags! A handbag is the ultimate accessory to complete your outfit and adorn your uniqueness. The big themes for fall 2007 are:

Oversized bags in patent leather, pebble-grain leather, clear plastic or patterned

Medium doctor bags

Metallic bags in silver, gold and bronze

The medium-size envelope bag or a clutch in metallics or shiny satin

Faux crocodile or snake-skin handle bags You're a style trendsetter with any of these handbags.

Shoes

The toes will now need a hiding place since the weather is becoming crisper. So, what are the key styles this season?

Pointed-toe pumps

Ballerina flats

Thick masculine boots with laces at ankle

Below-knee boots

Two-toned thick pumps

Oxford heels

Fall fashion shows show the models again wearing extreme heel heights from flats to spectator pumps and other more generous heels. (Please remember that tennis whites are still not vogue when pounding the pavement to work. Stick with the cute flats and loafers!)

And what are the key colors dominating fashion jewelry, handbags and shoes?

Black

Dark brown

Gray

White

Cream

Burnt orange

Merlot

Burgundy

Maroon

Chili pepper

Scarlet red

Fuchsia

Magenta

Royal purple

Dark olive

Apple green

Chartreuse

Dark turquoise

Peacock blue

Dull gold

Polished silver

Jewel tones

Collections for fall 2007 are simple, chic, elegant and truly glamorous. This fall, black is back in a variety of shapes and textures. However, what ensures that clothing is not boring and drab are the powerful colors appearing in fashion accessories, as outlined above.

Keep in mind that you should only purchase a fashion accessory, which you can easily afford or you haven't seen anything else like it anywhere. Don't buy it if you won't get multiple uses from it, it won't match anything in your wardrobe and most importantly, you really can't afford it. Playing with integrating some of the fall 2007 fashion accessory trends into your wardrobe is meant to be fun. So, keep it light!
